The Allen/Drennan family has a remarkable legacy of crafting prostheses for those affected by trauma or illness. It began with Raymond Allen, who emigrated from England to open BC’s first Anaplastology department then later added ocular prosthetics, addressing the needs of cancer and trauma survivors.
Raymond passed his expertise to his daughter Marie, whose passion for blending art and science advanced the field. Marie later trained her husband, Rob Drennan, and today their daughter Heather carries the legacy forward, embracing new 3D scanning and printing technology to elevate their craft.
Known for their meticulously detailed work and compassionately delivered patient care, the Allen/Drennan’s have earned a reputation that draws patients from across British Columbia and the Yukon. Their work transforms lives, restoring hope and confidence.
For all that has changed since Raymond’s first prosthesis, the joy of a patient’s final fitting remains unchanged—a moment where they see not just physical restoration but a renewed sense of self.
We focus on patient-centred care, continuous learning, and collaboration. Generations of refined knowledge and values create a safe, inclusive clinic that benefits every patient. We guide you through a process that restores the freedom of feeling like yourself again.
After moving to Victoria from Toronto, I was in need of a new artificial eye and was recommended to Marie Allen at the Eye Clinic. I have had many artificial eyes since childhood and this is one of the most comfortable and beautiful looking eyes. I work in the public and feel very confident with my eye. Marie is wonderful to work with and makes you feel very comfortable.

BCO, BADO, Anaplastologist
Hi, I’m Marie. I was trained as an Ocularist and Anaplastologist and founded Marie Allen Ocularist Ltd. in 1986. I learnt this rewarding profession from my father Raymond Allen, who worked at the BC Cancer Clinic in Vancouver. I am a Board Certified Ocularist (BCO) as well as a Board Approved Diplomate Ocularist (BADO). Over the past 40 years it has brought a tremendous amount of fulfillment to be able to help my patients in a tangible way. Currently, I serve as the Canadian Representative for the National Examining Board of Ocularists. Outside the office I spend my time working on various art projects, travelling, and connecting with those in my community.
BCO, BADO
Hello, I’m Rob. My career started in 1990, and I am a Board Certified Ocularist and Board Approved Diplomat Ocularist. I enjoy working with my daughter Heather and wife Marie in this unique profession. I strive to make every visit comfortable and even a little fun for our patients. I am grateful to be a small part of changing people’s lives for the better. I am currently transitioning into retirement to focus on my passions of skiing, hockey and golf.
BCO, BADO, Anaplastologist
Hi, I am a Board Certified Ocularist, and am working towards certification in Anaplastology. I am the daughter of Marie Allen and Robert Drennan. My grandfather was an anaplastologist and Ocularist and I am proud to continue his legacy into the third generation. I was trained as an optician and contact lens fitter prior to ocularistry. In addition to our Canadian practice, I plan to use my skills and help those in underdeveloped countries, restoring them to normal life and society. I am passionate about my work and am looking forward to providing the best results and care for our patients. I am currently serving as the NEBO Liaison Co-Chair with the International Academy of Ocularistry.
Hi, I’m Liz and I’ve had the privilege to work with Marie Allen Ocularist Ltd. since 1999 as the office administrator. I love what I do, whether that be general office administration or creating relationships by communicating with patients leading up to and during their appointments. It is truly gratifying to see the impact our work has on people and working with a company that is passionate and caring. In my spare time, I enjoy doing art projects, gardening and spending time with my family.
Hi! My name is Samira. I have worked with the team at Marie Allen Ocularist Ltd. since January 2022. I am currently registered as an Intern Ocularist with the College of Ocularistry and American Society of Ocularists. I am part way through my five year apprenticeship to be an ocularist. I enjoy working with patients of all ages and using my artistic skills to help those in need of a prosthesis. Outside of work, I am passionate about music, travel, and having meals with friends.
